Tradition in a breathtaking setting
Fljótsbakki, pronunciation: [ Fl - yots - bakki ] means “Riverbank”, it is placed on a bank by the river Skjálfandafljót in a peaceful environment. The terrain of the farm goes all the way to Þingey island, which is located at the estuary of the river. The county is named after the island; Þingeyjarsveit.
At Fljótsbakki you will get the chance to know life on a genuine Icelandic farm in a homelike atmosphere and experience the tranquility of vast unspoiled nature.
Fljótsbakki is a family run hotel, owned and maintained by Emil Tómasson and his family members. In 2016 the old cowshed on the farm was renovated which marked the beginning of a new chapter at Fljótsbakki. Today it features 12 beautiful rooms where the design was inspired by elements in the old shed along with sustainability measures.
Emil is an experienced traveler and for years he spent every summer driving around Iceland on his bus showing our country to travelers.
We are looking forward to welcoming you at Fljótsbakki and we hope you will feel at home.
